Fotonik in the USA

Researchers from the Network Technology and Service Platform group presented a one and a half hour tutorial on reliable future networks at the prestigious conference DRCN (Design of reliable Communication Networks) in Washington D.C..

Sarah Ruepp, Michael Berger and Henrik Wessing, all from the Network Technology and Service Platforms Group, have recently returned from Washington, DC, USA where the DRCN 09 Conference took place.

The tutorial was entitled "Reliable Carrier Ethernet Transport", and was based on the work in the HIPT project that is supported by the Danish Advanced Technology Foundation. It provides an analysis of state of the art for Carrier Ethernet, resilience methods and the challenges that still exist in the field. The tutorial concluded with the latest experimental results and best practices from the project.

The tutorial was among the most visited tutorials and modern educational methods were utilized to a great extent, e.g., small discussion groups were formed. It was necessary to extend the tutorial half an hour due to the large number of questions asked by the audience.

Besides this tutorial, PhD student Jiang Zhang participates with a paper titled "Protection for MPLS-TP Multicast Services" that addresses some of the outstanding issues relating to Carrier Ethernet and multicasting.
The conference is very well known within its field, and held biannual as a forum for researchers, developers and network designers from industry, academia and government authorities. More information about the conference can be found at www.drcn.org

The tutorial was awarded with a monetary reward, which the presenters wholely donated to the Networks Lab.
